Review: The forest of hands and teeth by Carrie Ryan

Goodreads summary:
In Mary's world there are simple truths.

The Sisterhood always knows best.
The Guardians will protect and serve.
The Unconsecrated will never relent.
And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.

But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future-between the one she loves and the one who loves her.

And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

Review: Spoiler alert!!!!

So this is a story about zombies, but it isn't all blood and gore it's a beautiful story about survival. Mary lives in a world surrounded by fences, these fences keep the undead or Unconsecrated as they are called in the book out of the village. The story starts with mary telling about the ocean, how her mother told her stories about the ocean. She also tells us that her father has disappeared and everyone thinks he became one of the unconsecrated. Her mother searches for him everyday at the fences. And at the end of this chapter the first victim of the unconsecrated is a fact. Her mother is infected and she is giving the choice of the final death or become one of the residents of the fores of hand and teeth. After her mother dies her brother sends her to the sisterhood. Something Mary doesn't want, she doesn't believe in god anymore, here she falls in love with Travis but he will mary her best friend. For her comes his brother Harry he wants to marry her. In the time that she's staying with the sisters she sees a new girl come into the village but only later will she find out that she has become one of the unconsecrated, but she's diffrent, she's faster than the others. On the day of her marriage to Harry the unconsecrated break through the fences. Mary gets away from the village through the only gate that has a path behind it. Together with Travis, Harry, her brother and his wife, her best friend, a dog and a child they saved they start to travel the path and try to find a way out to the outside world. This book doesn't have a happy ending that leaves you with a fuzzy feeling.

The verdicht

I loved this book from page one, I wanted to know everything about the village and the people living there. How did they survive and what are they doing now to stay alive. This was my first zombie book so I didn't know what to expect from it. After I got deeper into the story the story started to haunt me, even in  my sleep I couldn't get a rest from the book and the unconsecrated. I wanted to know what would happen next. I kept dreaming about the unconsecrated too, what would happen if something like this would really happen to us? I found the ending beautiful and I can't wait to read the next book. It;s a beautiful and scary story it grips you and it won't let you go until the last page. And even after reading the last page it still haunts you. If you are easily scared you should not read this book at night!
